During Arab Health 2024, the UAE-UK Business Council hosted a Summit on ‘Opportunities for UAE-UK Collaboration in Cancer Care’, sponsored by GSK, Al Tamimi Law, and Cambridge Innovation Capital (CIC) in Dubai. This Summit was the outcome of a year-long campaign including virtual meetings between oncology experts, consultants and academia in the UK and UAE including Royal Marsden, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Burjeel Medical Centre, Friends of Cancer Patients, Browne Jacobson, IQVIA and others. The campaign focussed on:

·      Cancer screening and diagnostics

·      Patient data sharing between the UK and UAE

·      Palliative care

The outcomes of the virtual meetings and the Summit formed the basis of our White Paper, with a series of recommendations on how to overcome barriers to commercial collaboration between the UK and the UAE in cancer care, whilst exploring the policy and regulatory environments in both countries in areas such as administration of medicines and data sharing, capacity building, upskilling and education and identifying the new and emerging opportunities within AI, data, and academic research.

Our White Paper, published in July 2024, will be submitted to both Governments for consideration later this year at the UK-UAE Ministerial Joint Economic Committee (JEC). The UAE-UK Business Council will track the progress of the recommendations made within this paper, and plans to launch a follow-up campaign on AI in Healthcare in September 2024.
